You may have noticed some trouble reaching us by phone recently, and we want to thank you for your patience. Good news: we’re actively installing a brand-new phone system that will bring our regular office line (916-322-2114) back online soon.

Sakura Updates: Waitlist Deadline & a Mural on the Way

Big news for anyone with their eye on Sakura, our affordable housing development at 2000 16th Street!

The waitlist lottery closes tomorrow—Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. If you, a friend, or a coworker is interested in calling Sakura home, now is the time to get on the list. Don’t wait; once the deadline passes, the window closes. You can sign up through the project website at sakura-cada.mutualhousing.com.

There’s more to look forward to, too. A stunning exterior mural is planned for installation in December, weather permitting. This colorful addition is part of our ongoing commitment to public art and placemaking.

Sakura is taking shape thanks to strong public-private partnerships that bring together dedicated builders, architects, and community organizations. Together, they’re turning plans into real, move-in-ready homes for downtown Sacramento.

Business Spotlight: Ace’s Gyro Shack

Ace's Gyro Shack is a family-run gem right here in the neighborhood. From their tender chicken shawarma to crispy falafel, signature "flavor bomb" lamb gyros, and juicy burgers like their classic cheeseburger and mixed lamb-and-chicken burger, every dish is crafted with care and served with their famous homemade tzatziki. Save the Date: Movie in Fremont Park

CADA’s annual Movie in Fremont Park is almost here, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! This year, get ready for a whimsical evening under the stars with a screening of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice (2024) on the big screen. The event is completely free, and we’ll be treating attendees to popcorn and cotton candy (while supplies last).

Arrive early to make the most of the festivities! A painting activity hosted by Atrium916 will start at 5:30 p.m., giving you the chance to channel your inner artist. Feeling hungry? A food truck will be on-site offering delicious meal options for purchase. As the sun sets, the movie will begin around 8:00 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and friends for a one-of-a-kind community gathering.

We’re also excited to announce that this event is co-sponsored by Midtown Association and Councilmember Pluckebaum, adding to the community love. And don’t let transportation hold you back because SacRT is offering free rides to the event! Just print their flyer available at sacrt.com/sacrt-free-ride-flyers and ride for free on their bus or light rail lines.

O Street Eames Totem Unveiling: A Celebration of Art and Community

We’re excited to invite you to CADA’s O Street Eames Totem Unveiling, a public event celebrating the legacy of Sacramento native and design legend Ray Eames. This special occasion marks the launch of Phase I of CADA’s Envision O Street Plan, an ambitious streetscape initiative transforming the O Street Corridor into a more inviting and vibrant neighborhood for all.

The event will feature Ray’s iconic Totem design, which has been beautifully reproduced on vinyl-wrapped aluminum panels as a semi-permanent public art installation at 900 O Street. This is the perfect chance to connect with neighbors, enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries, and admire a stunning tribute to midcentury design right here in our community.

Development Updates: Monarch Rising

Construction continues to move forward at Monarch, our affordable housing development at 805 R Street. The project is steadily taking shape and will soon add even more quality living options to our downtown neighborhood.

Like Sakura, Monarch is a product of collaboration, a team of public and private partners working side by side to deliver homes Sacramento needs. Each phase of progress builds on the last, and we’re excited to watch this development rise block by block.

Bien Juntitos Gala Watch Party: A Celebration of Community and Elders

On August 8, the community came together for the Bien Juntitos Gala Watch Party, and the energy in the room was pure joy and love. Neighbors, families, and friends gathered to honor our elders, and it was a heartfelt reminder of the incredible bonds that tie us all together.

CADA is proud to have sponsored this celebration of the Bien Juntitos Project, a breathtaking multimedia tribute that includes a film, book, poetry, music, and compelling stories. The project shines a spotlight on the lives, wisdom, and resilience of nuestros mayores (our elders)—the very people who have shaped our neighborhoods and history.

A huge thank you goes to Janine Mapurunga, the visionary social practice artist behind this project. Janine’s journey turned deeply personal during filming when she lost her grandmother. As elders opened up about their own stories of grief and resilience, the shared vulnerability transformed the project into something extraordinary.

One attendee summed it up:“Bien Juntitos completely wrecks you in the best way possible. It’s such a powerful reminder of how much we lean on community during life’s hardest moments. Watching this film makes you want to call your parents or grandparents just to hear their voices. It’s quiet, deeply emotional, and leaves you feeling overwhelmingly grateful.”

Upcoming Health, Fire, & Safety Inspections

The following buildings are scheduled for routine inspections in the coming months. We will provide at least a 24-hour written notice to you directly before entering your unit.

Accounting’s 2 Cents

A few friendly reminders to help your rent payments process smoothly:

1. Make payments out to CADA — or to Sonrisa – only if you live at Sonrisa (we also accept 1322 Investors LP from Sonrisa residents).
2. Use blue or black ink only. Other colors will not scan in our system.
3. Keep payments clean. Do not use envelopes, tape, glue, stickers, or any other foreign substance.
4. Include your name and current address on your payment.
5. Double-check your payment to make sure it’s filled out correctly and signed.
6. Accepted payment types: checks, cashier’s checks, and money orders. No cash.
7. Try auto/bill pay. Check with your bank to see if they offer this service. If so, they’ll mail your check to us for you.
8. Know your due dates. Rent is due on the 1st of each month and is late if paid after midnight on the 5th. Late fees are charged.
