Gather your friends and family for a vibrant evening under the illuminated poppies! Taking place every Wednesday, our Poppies Picnic Series brings the neighborhood together to enjoy live music, engaging family-friendly educational programming, and delicious food near Fremont Park.

Skip the cooking and pick up a tasty pre-made picnic basket! Fantastic restaurants surrounding the park are offering special grab-and-go menus to make your evening easy and enjoyable. Participating local favorites include Frog & Slim, Meza California, and Maydoon.

Fremont Park to Unveil “Fremont Bloom” Installation

Experience Kaiser Permanente‘s Fremont Park Bloom, a vibrant outdoor art installation transforming one of Midtown’s most beloved green spaces into a glowing garden of creativity for more than 40 days starting on May 9, 2026. Featuring towering 6–9-foot illuminated poppy sculptures inspired by California’s state flower, the installation, designed by Atlas Lab and local sculptural artist Gina Rossi, brings bold color, light, and artistic expression to the heart of Midtown for a striking visual experience both day and night.

Presented by CADA and Midtown ParksFremont Park Bloom celebrates the power of public art to activate shared spaces, support local artists, and bring the community together. Through immersive design and free public programming, the installation highlights Midtown’s thriving creative culture while helping ensure local parks remain active, welcoming, and inspiring for everyone.

Visitors are invited to explore the installation, capture photo-worthy moments among the glowing poppies, and experience the unveiling during Midtown Second Saturday on May 9 from 4–8 p.m., which will include an art market, food vendors, and silent disco with H.E.R.E., alongside ongoing programming throughout the installation’s run. Supported by Brown Construction, Inc., LBT Investments, and the City of SacramentoFremont Park Bloom reflects Midtown Parks‘ continued commitment to investing in arts experiences that strengthen community pride, support local creatives, and create vibrant public spaces for all to enjoy.
